Howe Gelb in conversation with Bill Carter
Thursday 18 December 6pm
Free for MOCA members, $5 non-members
Often referred to as the “godfather of alt. country,” Gelb (of Giant Sand, The Band of Blacky Ranchette, & OP8) and his many creative collaborators – amongst them the late Rainer Ptacek, Paula Jean Brown of the Go-Go’s, Joey Burns & John Convertino of Calexico, Bill Elm of The Friends of Dean Martinez, Lisa Germano, Neko Case, M. Ward, Cat Power, and Grandaddy – have made Tucson a global epicenter of distinctly original contemporary music. As prolific as he is internationally acclaimed, Gelb is joined tonight by noted filmmaker and author Bill Carter (director of Miss Sarajevo and author of Fools Rush In and Red Summer) in an exuberant exploration of Gelb’s creative process as a songwriter and recording artist.
